UX articles and insights for Mobile interfaces — TYPENORM
Mobile UX is designed for interruption. A phone is used with one thumb, on a train, between notifications, in bright sunlight and in bed, and a mobile interface has to survive all of it. The constraints are physical as much as visual: the reach of a thumb, the size of a fingertip, the keyboard that covers half the screen the moment a form appears.
What separates good mobile interfaces
Priority. With so little space, a strong mobile screen does one job and makes the next step easy to hit, usually in the lower half of the screen where a thumb rests. It keeps navigation shallow and predictable, saves progress when someone leaves halfway through, and respects platform conventions, so gestures and back buttons do what people expect. Interaction design on mobile is mostly about removing taps rather than adding features.
Where mobile UX usually breaks
Desktop layouts squeezed into a narrow column, with tiny tap targets and text that needs zooming. Forms that ignore the right keyboard type, autofill, or paste. Permission prompts fired on first launch, before the app has earned any trust. Onboarding carousels that explain features instead of letting people try them. And layouts that assume a perfect connection, then fail silently on a slow one. Good responsive design and clear accessibility practice — readable type, sufficient contrast, support for larger text sizes — prevent most of these before they ship.
This hub collects TYPENORM's mobile teardowns and articles, from fintech apps to consumer products. The catalog has screen-by-screen examples to compare: the habit loops in Duolingo, the money flows in Revolut, and the real-time status design of Uber, where a single map has to answer the question every rider is asking.
