The teardown

substack.com signed out is not a marketing page. It is the product's Notes feed, three columns wide, with a 'For you' selector above it and the same dead left rail Explore uses. What makes it a landing page is what has been spliced into the scroll. The column opens on a green banner carrying the About page's headline — 'Make money doing the work you believe in', with Start your Substack and Learn more — and then twice more, between real notes, a house card appears in the same shape as the notes around it: 'You made it, you own it' after the third post, 'Great discussions' with a phone mockup after the fifth. Three of the eight blocks in the feed are Substack selling authorship, formatted as feed items rather than as advertising. The right rail carries only search and the login card, and the login card ranks the same way it does everywhere else: orange 'Start your Substack' first, grey 'Sign in' second. There is no hero, no pricing, no product tour — the argument is that the feed itself is the demo, and the recruitment is scheduled into it.
