Stripe Checkout

The hosted payment page that made one card field the standard.

Stripe Checkout is less an app than a reference implementation, the page thousands of merchants drop in instead of building their own. Its single combined card input, where number, expiry, and CVC flow inline as you type, reset expectations across the industry for what a payment field should feel like. Validation is immediate and forgiving, the card brand is detected live, and the layout surfaces wallet buttons like Apple Pay above the manual form. Error messaging is specific rather than generic, telling you which field failed and why. The whole surface is restrained on purpose: no upsell, no clutter, just the shortest path from intent to charge. Its discipline is the lesson. The best move a checkout can make is to get out of the way.
