Coursera

University courseware wrapped in a week-by-week module rail.

Coursera structures learning the way a university semester does: courses break into numbered weeks, weeks into a stack of video lectures, readings, and graded quizzes, all tracked down a left-hand syllabus rail that checkmarks as you go. The video player is the workhorse, with adjustable speed, inline transcripts you can click to jump, and downloadable slides. Deadlines and a progress percentage create gentle academic pressure without Duolingo's gamified guilt. The friction shows at the edges: the catalog blurs free courses, paid certificates, and full degree programs into one browsing surface, so it is often unclear what a given click actually costs or unlocks. Peer-graded assignments and discussion forums round out the experience but feel bolted onto a fundamentally solitary, lecture-driven flow.
