Airbnb

Map and list bound together, with price total that arrives too late.

Airbnb's search couples a scrollable card grid with a live map; hovering a listing pops its pin, and panning the map re-queries results. It's a clean split-view interaction that most travel sites copied. The listing page leans on a large image gallery and a sticky reservation panel that follows you down the page, holding the date picker and price. Where it earns criticism is honesty of price: the nightly rate shown in results historically ballooned at checkout once cleaning and service fees landed, a gap regulatory pressure pushed it to close with upfront totals. Wishlists and the heart toggle are genuinely good saved-item patterns. The host-review system is mutual and time-boxed, which quietly suppresses negative reviews.
