Persona Template
A fill-in-the-blanks user-persona template — goals, frustrations, and context on one page.
What is a user persona?
A user persona is a one-page portrait of a real segment of your users — their goals, their frustrations, and the context they're working in — built from research rather than guesswork. A good persona template gives the whole team the same picture of who they're designing for, so decisions stop being about "what I'd want" and start being about "what this person needs."
Whether you're shaping a user persona for a product team or a customer persona for marketing, the structure is the same: a name and role to make it memorable, the context they operate in, what they're trying to achieve, what gets in their way, and a quote that captures their mindset.

What goes on a persona
A persona stays useful when it fits on one page. The template captures:
| Section | What to write |
|---|---|
| Name & role | A memorable name and the job/role that frames their needs |
| Demographics & context | Age, location, tools, and the situation they're in |
| Goals | What they're ultimately trying to achieve |
| Frustrations & pain points | What gets in their way today |
| Behaviors & motivations | How they act and what drives those actions |
| Quote | One line, in their words, that captures their mindset |
How to use it
- Base it on research — interviews, support tickets, analytics — not assumptions.
- Keep it to one page so the whole team can hold it in their head.
- Give it a name and a quote so it reads as a person, not a spreadsheet row.
- Revisit it as you learn more; a persona is a living document.
Pair it with the rest of the kit
A persona answers who. Map what they feel and what they do next:
- Empathy Map Template — turn research notes into a says / thinks / does / feels picture of the same user.
- Journey Map Template — trace that persona through each stage of their experience to surface friction and the moments that matter.
