MEGA

End-to-end encryption surfaced as a key you must not lose.

MEGA's interface is organized around a promise most rivals bury: your data is encrypted with a key only you hold. That choice shapes the whole experience. Onboarding forces a recovery-key ritual with stern warnings, because losing it means losing everything, and there's no password-reset escape hatch. The web app mimics a desktop file manager with a left tree and a content grid, and it shows a persistent storage-quota meter that's unusually prominent. Transfers run through an explicit transfer panel where you watch encrypted chunks move. The friction is real: shared links carry decryption keys in the URL fragment, which confuses users, and the security model demands attention the average person doesn't want to give. Privacy made tangible, sometimes uncomfortably so.
