Coach marks
Coach marks are the small, anchored callouts that point at a specific control the first time it matters — a spotlight plus a sentence. Used well they teach in context and then disappear; overused they become a wall of dismissible tooltips between the user and the work.
Each step of Figma's tour is a coach mark anchored to a live tool — here pointing at the Text tool with a single instruction, teaching in place rather than in a modal.
