Datadog is built around the linked timeline. Drag-select a spike on any metric graph and that same time window propagates to logs, traces, and related dashboards, so you investigate by narrowing a shared interval rather than copying timestamps between tabs. Dashboards are built from a deep widget library, and tag-based filtering lets you slice by host, service, or environment without writing queries. The cost is density: a default monitoring view can present dozens of simultaneously updating graphs, and the sheer surface area of products — APM, logs, RUM, synthetics — makes the left nav sprawl. Alert configuration is precise but intricate, with thresholds, evaluation windows, and notification routing stacked into long forms. It is an instrument panel for people who already think in metrics.
